#MeToo, O/C, 36 X 48”, 2019
This country, this world, was shaken by #MeToo; a situation, a problem, a fellowship, a disease, a movement, not new but very old. It is still shaking the very basis of what is to be human, the very meaning of society. For me, it is a tragedy. And that ceaseless, interminable, ugly tragedy was conspicuously played out on everyone’s TV set with the Trump Supreme Court nominee’s congressional hearing of Brett Kavanaugh. Watching Christine Margaret Blasey Ford, Dr. Ford, within this hearing was heartbreaking for me. And I immediately associated all of it with a series of paintings that I began in 2016 entitled Hong Yan Bo Ming that presently continues. One criticism I’ve heard about this series is “It is too Chinese”. But what it speaks to is a worldwide humanitarian tragedy. So this painting is my American version of Hong Yan Bo Ming.
